The Confucius Institute Barbados nominated me to be a speaker at this regional event representing our country as a Chinese language learner with an interesting story having never been to China.

The event featured speakers from Latin American countries like Brazil, Argentina and my hometown Barbados and so there were many translators to accommodate listeners in each of the 4 languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese)

Speakers presented in many different ways, some using PPTs, some with videos, some with stories, all with enthusiasm. My method was a mixture of storytelling and Power Point (PPT) slides to keep the listeners (and me) on track. I have attached the full .ppt to this Blog post below.

During said presentation, I made mention of one my favourite verses from the Bible (shown above) and spoke about how it is a guiding principle in my life and an encouragement to anyone who is currently trying to get good at something. The message I shared is that as long as we continue to work hard and get better and better at something, opportunities will arise in which we can use our skills, talents and languages.

The coordinators informed me that the video editing process has begun and that the video will be available on their YouTube channel here when it is completed. Finally, though just a speaker, I am pleased to say that the event was well attended with a participant count of over 100 persons and and with many questions, reactions and post-event follow ups which were all in line with the beautifully chosen theme, "My Chinese Dream."
